This may sound trivial for my geeky friends.. but it was a great thing for me... :)
I set up a web server on my laptop yesterday night hoping to listen to my personal collection of songs from elsewhere... :P

You can find detailed steps to enable port forwarding for variety of services in a range of routers here.
And there are many URL redirection services listed here, which you can use along with dyndns to set up a free domain name.
